Ordnance Department Original wooden military munitions crate stenciled "HIGH EXPLOSIVES DANGEROUS" across the face panel and marked along the side with weight and content specifications: "NET WT. 40 LBS GROSS WT. 47 LBS SCRAP TNT FROM BREAKDOWN 5 ERW RECLAIM 40MM J. O. 31 52." The dovetail joints, reinforced corners, and utilitarian stenciling identify it as a U. S. Ordnance Department issued container used for reclaimed or recycled TNT
