The Namji people of northwest Cameroon use them as ritual objects for good luck. Carved from a single piece of wood, they are then adorned with beads, cowries, fibers, and metal ornaments. These dolls hold a special place among women, who keep them to promote their fertility and support them in their role as mothers. Traditionally, they come in pairs.
