with a terminal spray of mostly upward and occasionally outward facing 2" yellow flowers

followed by clusters of black fruit if the winter temperatures are mild enough

open shade and do not thrive well in either part of full sun conditions

In our garden, Carex gentilis ssp. nakaharae 'Yushan' has made a stunning 18" tall x 3' wide, finely textured, evergreen specimen. I find Carex gentilis ssp. nakaharae a marvelous textural addition to the woodland garden.
